New (.au) Launch Information

We have some exciting news at New Domain. The new Australian .au domain name is ready to be launched on March 24! This email is to inform you that you have first rights to your matching .au domain name for a limited period of time.

What are the new .au domain names?

Previously you could register (.com.au) and (.net.au) domain extensions. Now there is another option to register a shorter (.au) domain extension, without the .com/.net. See attached PDF file for further information.

Who gets the .au domain name?

There is a detailed process, but if you are receiving this email it is because you have the first right of registration to your matching domain name. This offer is limited in time. See attached PDF for further information.

Why register a .au direct domain name?

The .AU domain name is the newer, shorter and more memorable, which establishes a high level of trust from local Australian customers. Registering your matching .AU direct domain allows you to streamline traffic to your site, retain your branding, and prevent competitors from beating you to it!

Do I have to secure the matching .au domain name?

No. However, after the allocation period, the matching domain name will become publicly available. Essentially, if you are running off mybusiness.com.au someone else can register the corresponding .au and run their business from mybusiness.au.

What happens once I have secured the domain name?

On March 24, 2022, New Domain will execute your priority allocation and your domain name will be registered for 5 years. You will receive updates prior to this date about your order.

How do I use the domain name?

From March 2022 you will be able to use either domain name. Both will function exactly the same. So if you have an email address joe@mybusiness.com.au you can also use joe@mybusiness.au – There is nothing that you need to do, New Domain technical team will set this up for you automatically.
